🐢 Natural Turtle Shell Specimen
I bought this natural turtle shell specimen mainly because I’ve recently been into natural history decor and taxidermy-style collectibles. This piece stood out as one of the top-rated items in its category and had some solid reviews. I was curious to see how authentic it would feel up close.
What attracted me: The promise of it being a real turtle shell, not a plastic replica. The photos looked quite detailed, and I liked that it was marketed as both a decor item and a conversation piece. The price was also notably lower than similar items found in U.S. curio shops.
My impressions: When it arrived (took about 14 days to the West Coast), it was well-packed in bubble wrap and a sturdy box. The shell is indeed real—no weird smells, clean, and nicely preserved. It has a slightly weathered look, which I personally prefer over something that looks artificially polished.
Pros: ✔️ Genuine shell ✔️ Unique and striking ✔️ Incredibly affordable compared to similar U.S. items that can run $80+ ✔️ Makes a great shelf or wall piece
Cons: ❌ Slight flaking on the edge (not enough to bother me, but worth noting) ❌ No display stand included
Comparison: I saw similar pieces on Etsy and local stores for $60–100. I paid less than a third of that on AliExpress. Definitely a win.
Did it meet expectations? Yes, and then some. I thought it might be more decorative than scientific, but it’s very authentic.

🐊 Resin Crocodile Skull Replica
This crocodile skull resin replica caught my eye because of its rugged look. I’ve always loved prehistoric and reptilian decor, and this felt like a cool way to spice up my study space.
What attracted me: Aesthetics and price. The skull looked detailed and had a gnarly, realistic look. Plus, being resin means it’s durable and not as fragile as a real bone piece.
My impressions: The texture and details are excellent—teeth are sharp and proportionate, and the resin has a bone-like feel without being overly glossy. Took 3 weeks to arrive but came intact and well-cushioned.
Pros: ✔️ Great detail and finish ✔️ Looks amazing on a bookshelf ✔️ No ethical concerns vs. real skulls ✔️ Lightweight but solid
Cons: ❌ One small tooth came slightly bent (I fixed it with warm water) ❌ Took longer to ship than most items in my order
Comparison: Similar skulls in U.S. novelty or science stores go for $40–70. I paid less than $15.
Did it meet expectations? Yes. It’s bigger than expected and more realistic than I imagined for the price.

🐙 Octopus in Resin Specimen
I ordered this resin-encased octopus specimen for my desk. I love marine biology, and this was too unusual to pass up.
What attracted me: The curiosity factor. It’s a full little octopus in clear resin, which looked almost surreal. I hadn’t seen anything like it for under $100 in the U.S.
My impressions: It’s stunning. The resin is crystal clear, and the octopus is positioned in a curled, natural-looking pose. You can see tiny sucker details. Looks amazing under LED light. Took 2 weeks to arrive.
Pros: ✔️ Super unique conversation piece ✔️ Good educational value ✔️ Clean, high-quality resin ✔️ Surprisingly heavy and stable
Cons: ❌ A few micro-bubbles in the resin ❌ No label or identification (I added my own)
Comparison: Comparable marine specimens in museums or specialty stores run $90–150. This cost me around $25.
Did it meet expectations? Absolutely. Honestly, exceeded them.

🐥 Stuffed Yellow Duckling Specimen
This taxidermy duckling was the oddball pick, but I couldn’t resist. The photos gave it a slightly eerie-cute look, and I figured it would be a good addition to my growing cabinet of curiosities.
What attracted me: The uniqueness and the nostalgic, Victorian vibes. It looked professionally prepared in the listing.
My impressions: The duckling is well-taxidermied—soft, intact, feathers are fluffy, and the eyes are clear. Slightly smaller than I expected, but very lifelike. Shipped in a plastic container with padding and arrived in about 12 days.
Pros: ✔️ Excellent craftsmanship ✔️ Delicate, soft, and well-preserved ✔️ No odor, professionally cleaned
Cons: ❌ Slightly fragile feet ❌ No base included
Comparison: In the U.S., this would go for $50–80 easily. On AliExpress, it was under $25.
Did it meet expectations? Yes, and I plan to get a few more to display together.
US $19.9

🦊 Real Fox Skull (Set of 2)
I ordered a set of two real fox skulls for Halloween decor and possible use in some DIY craft projects.
What attracted me: The fact they’re real bones and not resin. I liked that the listing offered different quantity options at fair prices.
My impressions: Both skulls came individually wrapped. Very clean, no bad smell, minimal damage (one had a slight chip on a molar, but nothing major). They feel solid and real—just what I wanted.
Pros: ✔️ Authentic skulls ✔️ Clean and bleached ✔️ Price is unbeatable
Cons: ❌ Some asymmetry between the two ❌ Slight bone flaking near the nasal cavity
Comparison: U.S. suppliers ask around $40–60 per skull. I paid about $30 for two.
Did it meet expectations? Yes. These are real, ethically sourced, and well-prepped.

🦴 Full Fox Skeleton (Unassembled)
This DIY fox skeleton was a bold purchase. I’ve never worked with unassembled specimens before, but I’ve been wanting a full skeleton for educational purposes.
What attracted me: Educational appeal and price. Plus, I like puzzles—and this is basically a 3D anatomy puzzle.
My impressions: All bones were included and neatly packed. Nothing broken. It’s not for beginners—you’ll need some anatomical references to put it together correctly. But incredibly satisfying.
Pros: ✔️ Educational and hands-on ✔️ Real bones ✔️ Great condition
Cons: ❌ No guide or diagram included ❌ Some tiny bones (toe bones, etc.) are easy to misplace
Comparison: A mounted fox skeleton in the U.S. runs $300–600. This kit cost me under $90.
Did it meet expectations? 100%. Difficult, but worth it.
US $30.6

🐟 Hairtail Fish Skull
This hairtail/swordfish skull was another marine-themed pick. It’s a striking, long structure and looked beautiful in the listing.
What attracted me: Size and uniqueness. Fish skulls are weirdly beautiful, and I wanted something elongated for visual contrast in my display.
My impressions: It’s massive—longer than expected. Bone is real and preserved well. Clean, with all teeth intact. Took about 3 weeks to arrive.
Pros: ✔️ Very visually striking ✔️ Real fish skull, not synthetic ✔️ Well-cleaned and shaped
Cons: ❌ Some fragility due to length ❌ No mounting hardware or stand
Comparison: U.S. oceanic specimen dealers ask $150+ for similar items. This was around $40.
Did it meet expectations? Completely. It’s a showstopper.

🦌 Faux Deer Head Wall Decor
This faux deer head in resin was a home decor buy. I needed something rustic but modern for my entryway, and this seemed like a good fit.
What attracted me: The mix of farmhouse style and animal aesthetic. Being resin, it’s lightweight and easier to mount than real taxidermy.
My impressions: It looks surprisingly high-end. Matte finish, good antler symmetry, no paint defects. Mounts easily with one hook.
Pros: ✔️ Lightweight and sturdy ✔️ Great style for modern rustic interiors ✔️ Affordable alternative to real taxidermy
Cons: ❌ Doesn’t come with mounting hardware ❌ Smaller than I thought
Comparison: Resin deer heads in U.S. stores range from $60–120. I paid under $25.
Did it meet expectations? Definitely. Looks great on my wall.
US $39.73
🛍️ Overall Impression
I was genuinely surprised by the quality of these AliExpress taxidermy and specimen items. Every product was either real or convincingly realistic, and almost all came carefully packed and in good condition. While a few minor flaws existed (like lack of labels or stands), the prices were unbeatable compared to U.S. sources. I’d absolutely recommend these to collectors, educators, or anyone into natural decor.
I’m already building a list for my next order—and I definitely didn’t expect to become this obsessed.
