🔹 Transparent Gameboy Cartridge Case
I picked up this transparent Gameboy cartridge shell because my old cartridges were looking rough and I needed something to give them a clean, uniform look. I liked that it was one of the top-rated items in its category and the photos in the listing looked promising.
Once it arrived (took about 2.5 weeks, shipped to the U.S.), I was honestly impressed by the quality. The plastic is crystal clear, not foggy or yellowish like cheaper versions I’ve seen on eBay. Snapping the cartridge board into place was easy — no awkward bending or worrying about breaking the tabs.
Pros: – Very clean transparency, makes old cartridges look brand new – Fits snugly with no rattle – Great for display or resale restoration
Cons: – No label sticker included – Doesn’t feel quite as thick as original cartridge shells
Compared to buying a single replacement cartridge case on Amazon (which can go up to $5–7 each), this was a steal. I paid less than $2.50, and the quality is arguably better than some domestic options. Totally met my expectations and even exceeded them a little.
US $2.63

🔹 Full GB DMG Shell With Buttons (Matte Grey)
I bought this Gameboy Classic full shell replacement kit to restore an old childhood unit I found in my parents’ attic. I was drawn to the classic matte grey look — very close to the original color scheme.
The full set includes the front and back shells, rubber button membranes, plastic buttons, a screen lens, and all necessary screws. Installation took about 45 minutes (I followed a YouTube teardown guide), and everything lined up well. The finish isn’t identical to the original Nintendo material, but it’s clean and fits precisely.
Pros: – Solid color matching – Buttons feel very close to OEM – Comes with tools and extras
Cons: – Screw holes needed gentle persuasion – Slight texture difference from original shell
For around $10 including shipping, it easily beats local U.S. kits that go for $20+. Met my expectations — great for DIY restorers.
US $5.34

🔹 Smoke Black GB Shell With Full Buttons Kit
Another Gameboy DMG full housing kit, but this time I went with a smoked black version for a custom build. I liked the semi-transparent look — modern but still retro.
Delivery was quick (under 3 weeks), and everything arrived intact. This one had a tighter fit than the grey version, and the buttons actually felt better — not mushy. I also appreciated that the screen lens was already adhesive-backed.
Pros: – Sleek modern-retro aesthetic – All parts included – Great value
Cons: – Plastic was prone to fingerprints – Conductive pads were a bit stiff
Price-wise, it’s unbeatable. Local U.S. mod stores charge $25+ for similar sets. I’d say it exceeded expectations for a custom build.
US $0.99

🔹 JCD Transparent GB Housing With Conductive Pads
This clear GB shell from JCD was part of a themed custom build I wanted to do. I chose JCD because I’d seen the brand recommended by modders.
Out of all the kits, this one had the highest build quality. The plastic was thicker, the screen lens fit perfectly without gaps, and the conductive pads worked straight out of the box — no re-seating needed. Buttons were responsive and snappy.
Pros: – Thick, quality plastic – No modification needed – Premium packaging for an AliExpress item
Cons: – Slightly more expensive than other kits – Lens was a hair off-center (needed adjusting)
At around $13, it’s still half the price of a Retro Modding kit in the U.S. and better than I expected. Fully satisfied.
US $0.99

🔹 Second Transparent Cartridge Shell (Backup)
I ordered a second transparent GB cartridge case, mainly as a backup for another board I had lying around. Same seller as the first one — consistency matters.
Same quality, same clear plastic, no defects. This one actually had tighter clips than the first. I now use it for display and labeling.
Pros: – Reliable consistency – Great for collectors
Cons: – Again, no label sticker
At this price point, having spares is a no-brainer. Performs as expected.
US $0.99

🔹 Replacement Battery Door for Gameboy Classic
My original GB had a missing battery door, so I picked up this replacement for under $2. The color matched surprisingly well with my shell. It clipped on snugly and hasn’t fallen off with shaking or light movement.
Pros: – Color match was spot-on – Very affordable
Cons: – Slightly thinner than original – Not labeled with any Nintendo markings
U.S. eBay listings wanted $7–10 for this exact part. This did the job at 1/5th the price. It met expectations perfectly.
US $1.91

🔹 JCD Full Shell Kit With Extras
This JCD complete shell for GB with buttons and screen lens came packaged really well. I used it for another modding project, and what stood out was the included screwdriver and screws — no need to reuse old hardware.
The screen lens was glass, which I wasn’t expecting at this price. The plastic shell had a nice matte texture that hides scratches.
Pros: – Great packaging – Glass lens included – All-in-one convenience
Cons: – Conductive pads weren’t as responsive as OEM – Edges needed minor sanding
Compared to the $30+ kits with similar features from U.S. sellers, this was a huge win. Definitely exceeded expectations.
US $1.61

🔹 Classic Beige Shell With Buttons
Went old-school with this beige GB shell kit, aiming to recreate the 1989 Gameboy vibe. The kit included a plastic lens (not glass), but everything felt close to authentic.
Assembly was easy. Button caps were slightly glossier than originals but worked fine. Screws all lined up. One rubber contact needed a little re-centering, but nothing major.
Pros: – Strong nostalgia factor – Clean molding – Good for light restorations
Cons: – Plastic lens scratches easily – Rubber D-pad was a bit soft
Still a strong value for $9–10. On par with similar kits sold on Etsy or Amazon at double the price.
US $2.67

🔹 Clear Shell With Conductive Pads and Buttons
This fully transparent case with buttons turned out to be one of my favorites. It just looks so clean and futuristic once installed. The shell had no warping or scratches, and the buttons felt clicky in a good way.
I appreciated that it came with a full set of screws, lens, and even screwdrivers. Great value for modders.
Pros: – Stunning clear finish – Complete kit, no missing pieces – Smooth button feedback
Cons: – Fingerprints are an issue – Took 3 weeks to arrive
Easily comparable to $25 mod kits in the U.S., but for less than half that price. Met and slightly exceeded expectations.
US $2.75

🔹 2.6 Inch LCD Screen Kit for GB DMG (No Shell Cutting Needed)
This LCD screen kit for Gameboy DMG was the most exciting part of my modding spree. I specifically chose this one because it doesn’t require shell trimming — huge plus for beginners.
Installation wasn’t plug-and-play, but manageable. The included instructions were basic, but YouTube filled in the gaps. Once installed, the display was bright, crisp, and had no ghosting. It breathed new life into the handheld.
Pros: – No shell cutting required – Bright modern display – Revives old consoles
Cons: – Slight learning curve for install – Instructions could be better
Compared to $60+ IPS kits sold domestically, this was a bargain at under $30. Completely exceeded expectations.
US $4.08
Overall Thoughts
To be honest, I didn’t expect everything I ordered from AliExpress to be this solid. Most products arrived within 2–3 weeks to the U.S., and everything was well-packed. The quality on several of these items was equal to — or better than — much more expensive U.S. versions. I’m definitely satisfied with this haul, especially for the price I paid across all 10 items.
Would I recommend these to other retro modders or collectors? Absolutely. I’m already planning my next order — maybe a backlit mod next time.
